The body as a site of transition and change

My work is animated by the physical experiences of change, limitation, transition and constraint— bodily and emotional experiences inherent to human membership in the natural world and heightened by inter-connected relationships. Sculpting the human figure in clay requires slowing down and paying attention to transitions and fragile moments as well as accepting unexpected change. My pieces frequently incorporate natural elements — clay slips from local areas, wax, and organic material—to develop a material vocabulary that ties internal experiences to the larger landscape. How are we physically and emotionally affected by the fragility of our current moment? How do we attach meaning to the process of wanted and unwanted change in ourselves, in our environment, and in others?
